Here is the English translation of your text: --- Zorikto Dorzhiev (born 1976) works in easel painting, graphics, book illustration, sculpture, and also as a film artist. Having absorbed the fundamentals of the Russian academic school and the “cosmopolitanism” of contemporary European art, Dorzhiev continues to follow Buryat national traditions. In 1996, he graduated from the Buryat Republican School of Culture and Art in Ulan-Ude; in 2002, from the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute; and from 2003 to 2005, he undertook an internship at the creative workshops of the Russian Academy of Arts. Training in the academic painting system enabled Dorzhiev to master and later utilize skills such as constructing form, the laws of color composition, and compositional organization of the image. Zorikto’s creative method is based on a synthesis of several components, the main ones being the figurative tradition of the academic school and the cultural heritage of the nomadic peoples of Buryatia. Dorzhiev works with traditional folk images very attentively and delicately. He manages to avoid populist replication of recognizable elements or ethnographic or museum-like reconstruction. The artist creates images imbued with the characteristic qualities of Central and East Asian culture, such as the closed-off and introspective nature of the characters, plastic austerity and lapidary forms, and a decorative development of the surface. The backgrounds of his works are often the vast expanses of the steppe. Reflection on the theme of the Great Steppe is a leitmotif of Dorzhiev’s art. He defines the image of the main character—the nomad—as follows: “For me, a nomad is a contemplative person... He is an artist, poet, philosopher. As a rule, he is lonely.” Zorikto’s solo exhibitions have been successfully held at the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow), Neumünster Abbey (Luxembourg), the Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France), the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium), and Hay Hill Gallery (with the opening ceremony at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK). ---
