Sterling silver. The rechaud, with three narrow, voluted, shell-like feet, is adorned with a central burner and a narrow gadroon band over pierced rocaille work. The kettle, on a short, round stand with a spherical body, features a smooth wall with delicately engraved leaf and rocaille decoration. The flat hinged lid is crowned with an ovoid wooden knob. The conical, curved spout is surrounded by relief sculpted volutes. The overlapping, movable handle is wrapped in bast. The front side displays delicately engraved coat of arms. Signed, hallmarked, with the year letter "J", by master John Swift (active since 1739). Total weight approximately 2465 g. Height 38 cm. See Jackson, p. 203.
